MP4 artifacts

MP4 plays fine until dropping a key, then there are a significant number of artifacts.
They are in the lows more than highs, but gurgling.
using the codec pack, have force FFDshow enabled.

yes it does
there are minor ones with mp3g, but nothing crazy until i go to extremes (4+ up or down maybe)
the mp4 is worse with 2 down.
not unusable, but quite noticeable

OK, so I played with this for some time and did not find anything unusual. It sounded ok with -9 key change, which is extreme I guess. I will did deeper, but I cannot see anything that might cause the issue. Please let me know if you experience this with different songs.
